How We Prepare Concrete Bases

We excavate to the correct depth, lay and compact a type 1 sub base, then pour a concrete slab to the right thickness and finish. We use steel mesh reinforcement where needed for added strength.
For existing concrete bases, we carry out a detailed inspection. We check for cracks, soft spots, movement and drainage issues. Small cracks can be filled and repaired. Larger problems may need sections cutting out and re-pouring. We also check levels to make sure the surface is flat and drains correctly.
Getting the Levels Right
Correct falls and levels are key. Water needs to drain away from your property and off the surface. We set falls of at least 1 in 80 across the base. This means water flows away gently without forming puddles. Because resin bound is permeable, much of the water drains through the surface itself. But the base still needs to direct excess water to the right place.

It depends on the condition of the concrete. If it is stable, flat and crack-free, yes. If there are problems, we may need to repair or replace sections first.
How thick does the concrete base need to be?
For driveways, we typically pour 100mm to 150mm of concrete over a compacted sub base. For patios and paths, 75mm to 100mm is usually sufficient.
How long does concrete take to cure?
Concrete reaches working strength in about seven days and full strength in 28 days. We plan the resin application around the curing schedule.
